Research has revealed that Harriet Jones married Walter Manning on May 14, 1871, in Brooks County, Georgia. The area where Walter and Harriet were married was once Thomas County, it but later became Brooks County.
There are no known records of their parents or to what slave plantation they betonged. It is believed Walter Manning was of Cherokee Indian descent due to the physical description and features repeated through the generations.

Walter, Jr.
Robert
Jack
John

The Mannings were farmers and earned their living as sharecroppers. As th~ children grew up and married, several migrated to
other counties and states. Miley, Ollie, Eva, and Georgia moved to Florida. Charlie moved to the township of Cecil, Georgia in Cook County. Adeline married John Brown and they settled in Alabama. The others
settled in Brooks County and Lowndes County, Georgia.
Most of Walter and Harriet's children multiplied and had lots of children of their own. History reveals that their offspring were named for their aunts and uncles. As one can see, several of the names were
handed down through the generations. There were and still are several "Charlies, Roberts, and Cities,'' etc. They even included nicknames that had been given to the Manning children such as, "Toodlem," "Buck," and "Nun."
It is reported that the Mannlng children were talented and they passed these talents on to their children. There are reports of several
musicians, dancers, singers, and home spun comedians. These many talents are evident in the Manning descendants today.
With the invention of the automobile, unfortunately the Manning family dispersed and became scattered and fragmented for many years.
